THANK YOU

I want to thank you, stranger, because you’ll never know what a difference you made to my life.

The time you held open a door and smiled.
The time you welcomed me into your life for an afternoon and we didn’t stop laughing.
The time you gave your kid 10p for the charity pot, even when money was tight.
The time you bought my book for someone.
The time you picked me up from the airport in rush hour traffic.
The time you carefully explained all the medical details, because you know I like to know.
The time you encouraged me, when I was scared witless.
The time you paused to tell you how much my work meant to you.
The time you sent me your painting as a gift, instead of selling it.
The time you came to me and trusted me with your pain.
The time you triggered me, and let me see all my rough edges.
The time you held out a hand, and invited me to step forward.
The time you saw through the machinations of ego and said sorry.
The time you stepped out of the shadows and shone.
The time you listened long enough to hear me.
The time when you assumed it was okay to be rude to me, and reminded me it’s not okay.
The time you showed me something new you were working on.
The time you taught me that I’d outsourced my happiness, by stomping on it.
The time you came on my calls, just to support me.
The time you sat quietly and didn’t try to stop me crying.
The time you asked me to read one of my stories to you, for the third time.
The time you heard my apology and accepted it.
The time you let me go ahead of you in the supermarket.
The time you used me badly, and allowed me to learn respect for my boundaries.
The time you trusted that my path is not the same as yours.
The time you rejected me, and gave me a space to grow into.
The time you welcomed me into your group, and offered friendship to a stranger.

I want to thank you, friend, because you’ll never know what a difference you made to my life.

With Love,
Sara
