Cycling in the park on Sunday, I was whinging to myself that my back was sore and I didn’t want to be there. I was thinking of how it was only going to get worse, and how I had lots of things I wanted to get done in the afternoon.
Then we met a sweet dog and had a chat with her owner. Five minutes later, I realised I’d forgotten about my back – I checked, and it simply didn’t hurt any more. I’d made up the backache as a reason for my grumpy mood, but when my mood lifted, so did the pain.
All those imagined futures disappeared in a puff of smoke and I finished the ride quite happily.
That’s the nature of Thought, what we think becomes real. Real enough that I completely believed in my pain until a new thought came in and rewrote my experience.
